We're On A Deadline Here

Three months have passed since Jacob's last doctor visit. At his six month check up the nurse asked, "does he sit up at least in the tripod position?" "Well no, he doesn't" was my reply. Did I feel inadequate as a parent? Yeah just a little. I had no idea he should be able to do that. We went home and with a little practice, Jacob was sitting up like a little Buddha. Although I do not know all of the questions the doctor is going to ask at this visit, I know one of them. Is Jacob crawling? I am afraid the answer will be the same. "Well no, he doesn't." I'm okay with that though (sorta). Do I necessarily want to have to watch my child like a hawk every second of every day just because I want to answer in the affirmative for every one of the doctor's questions? I don't think I do. I like being able to put Jacob on his play mat and know that if I leave the room for a split second, he will still be in the same area. Now, he is a little more mobile now. In fact he will roll all over if given the opportunity. If I sit on one side of the room with food, and place him on the other, he will make it over to me. That process takes him about 10 minutes though and by the time he gets there he needs the food to help him recharge. I think he is well on his way to crawling we just might make the doctor's deadline.  I just wish the doctor asked the important questions like Does he give his mommy sweet kisses? Check. Does he have an awesome impression of the Godfather? Check. Can he sing like a child from a Bollywood film (think Slum Dog Millionaire)? Check. Jacob has the fun things down and is probably way cooler than half the other kids his age. Can he crawl? No, but here is a list of all the wonderful things he can do. So for now I think I'll tell Jacob to take his time  and enjoy sitting and taking it all in. One day he will have to be moving all the time and wish he could have just a moments rest.
