So I took Liam for his four month check up today. You read that correctly, he is four months old. I know. I can't believe it either. He is a healthy baby boy weighing in at 15 lbs 6 oz (45%) measuring 26 inches height (79%) and 17 inches for his head (68%). From what the doctor said, he is on track developmentally as well. Of course, I didn't need the doctor to tell me that. I had decided with Liam not to introduce solid foods until he was six months old. He has been nursing just fine and is thriving. If you have seen his fat rolls, you know he is not lacking any nourishment. Today however, the doctor told me recent studies have shown it is actually better to start the babies earlier at 4 months. This is assuming the baby doesn't gag on the foods presented. Studies have shown babies who begin eating solids earlier have less of a chance of developing food allergies. She also said I don't have to follow a strict schedule of introducing foods. The only thing I should avoid is honey. Well, that information threw me for a loop. Could we wait until six months to introduce solids? Of course, but it wouldn't hurt either. She also said it might help him sleep a longer stretch through the night. She had me at "sleep." Guess what we tried tonight?
Oatmeal!
Liam LOVED it. He even tried to help me feed him. Seriously. He was grabbing at the spoon and had no trouble at all opening for the bite. I should have guessed I would have another fat kid! After all, he takes after his momma. (Please dont' go thinking I have poor self-esteem. I am perfectly happy with the skin I am in. I just like to eat, thus, I am a "fat kid.")
Fingers crossed for a good night!
